Bearer technologies

From the user’s perspective, mobile broadcast services can be provided based on different technologies, e.g.

• DVB-H, DVB-T and DVB-S/H
• DAB, T-DMB and S-DMB
• FLO
• ISDB-T (1-seg)
• ATSC-M/H
• CMMB
• IMB
• BCMCS
• MBMS
• TD-SCDMA

Having special business model requirements, each of these technologies has its own pros and cons.

The bearer technologies work item aimed to evaluate the different approaches under technological, frequency, regulatory and business aspects.

Until 2008, the work item was chaired by Steve Turner, NXP Semiconductors.

The work of this group was terminated after the publication of the updated "Bearer Technologies" study in February 2009. It may be re-activated if technology progress will make necessary a further study update.
